Reds vs. Mets Game Highlights (9/7/24) | MLB Highlights
There has been much joy through the Mets eight game winning streak, but there's grim news today. Not good. Uh, MRI, this morning show, a wrist fracture, so he's likely done for the year and we're looking at 46 weeks, you know, that's what they told us. So, you know, it's going to be hard unless we're playing deep into that will be a good conversation to have. You know, I would say if, you know, you see me on the field again, that's a really good thing. That means we're, you know, deep in the playoffs. So, you know, I want to say I can come back and help contribute, but, you know, who knows who got, you see how it heals in the next few weeks. And Then, you know, I think it might be a, you know, pain management kind of thing.
So we'll see well, better late than never. Welcome back to city field. And after a rain delay of a little bit over an hour, Mets and Redskin set to play some baseball. Meanwhile, on the mound for the Mets today will be Jose Quintana , take the first crack at his 1/100 career victory his last start, a couple of runs given up in five innings against the Chicago White Sox. It was definitely a move forward from his previous starts where he had struggled and Stevenson lifts one to right center circling in his baiter and that retires the side 123 for Quintana in the opening innings. Come to bat with no score. Jacob Juni gets the ball today. A couple of good longer outings of league. I think they're going to look for a little bit longer outing from Jacob Juna. As long as he throws zeros on the board, he was very good.
His last time out riding a 34 game on base streak tied for the longest single season streak in Mets history. Now he swings this one high in the air, deep left center field , Friedel near the wall at the 370 sign on the track. Friedel hauls it down, hauls it in brandon hitting 2 30 18 homers. Of course, he's cooled off swing and a miss, he struck him out fastball 92 miles an hour. Nimmo swings right through. It has retired the first two batters that he on this ball is in the air to center TJ Friedel back a few strides to make the catch.
And that's a 123 innings for Jacob Juni up and in ball four and steer becomes the first baserunner of the game and it will bring up Ty France and he hits one to the right side and Iglesias with a beautiful first double Iglesias sprawling and Then turning two. And now here is the Met Ahmed Rosario who was zero for three with three strikeouts last night swaying and a miss strike three went after a fastball that was up and Quintana gets out of mild difficulty in the second with great speed going down the line had no choice but to wait back on that ball, India flied out to write his first time up hit in his last nine at bats hard to the whole nice backhand play Iglesias to first and they turn another gem of a double play those two and Iglesias 64 and 32 out. They are just magicians. That's what they are. The MVP in the ballpark score. No base runners yet yielded by Jacob jus 12 pitch swing and a miss it right by him with the four seam fastball.

Now Marko and now ball four slider the miss down and the Mets have their first base runner of the day. So Viento Board with two out, here's Alonso Hammer right field. Fraley though has room on the track and gloves it for a long out and retires. The Mets here in the fourth as they strand one in the fourth Mets are without a hit through the first four innings. The other way towards the right field corner slicing away from fairly. It is a fair ball base hit, first hit for the Mets up with it. Fires in to second. Iglesias is there with a double. The Mets with their first hit, their first runner in scoring position and francisco Alvarez will try to get him in check.

You envision the championship season at some point, you got to get contributions from just about everybody Bader. It has been a struggle that the team knows it. And that's why ball four and is on base streak is extended to 35. That is a new Mets single season record in tight at Nimmo gets the pitch and the Mets have two on that will bring up Pete Alonso another chance for Pete with a man in scoring position. Pete. It's one up the middle, that's a base hit to score stops at second. Pete right up the middle for an RB I single 12 to 0. New York hit for right there. Very unusual up the middle. India was going for it but Then gave up on it. Like he thought Cruz going to come two out and two on with two runs home and here's JD Martinez and he hits this one to left steer will get this one. It's down for a base hit. It goes to the wall. Nibble is in al right behind him. JD Martinez pulls it at second with a two run double and the Mets double their lead. It's 4 to 0. They have a hitter of the quality Martinez up hooks this into left field and as soon as it was down, you knew both runners Nimmo and Then Alonso running on the play gets a good start.
That's as fast as goes nice running to score the fourth run , Jose Quintana. Now with the lead for the first time in there for a strike 32 down, six strikeouts for Quintana and the batter is Santiago Espinal first pitch swinging a grounder backhanded by the third baseman off balance throw, but he gets past Alonso would have been a real nice play horrific stop by Vientos but a long hop that skipped by Alonzo. And so Quintana comes out of the game after 100 pitches, six and two thirds scoreless innings and gets a well deserved ovation. Jose Quintana exits this game in line for his 1/100 career victory. That's with a 4 to 0 lead in the top of the seventh and Adam Avino will come on for the first time in more than a week.
